Take Advantage of Surprise Marketing Opportunities

Take Advantage of Surprise Marketing Opportunities As a freelance writer and communications specialist, I am usually the person conducting the interviews and writing the articles. I really do enjoy helping businesses achieve their marketing goals and gain publicity. This week, the tables were turnedâ€"and what a great experience it has turned out to be! In several weeks, I will be presenting a seminar at the first Market the Valley Business Expo and Conference (more to follow about that event in a future blog). I was contacted by a local newspaper reporter at the Leader-Telegram. He was writing a story about the upcoming conference and wanted to know if I would answer a few questions about my involvement. Of course, my answer was “yes.” The newspaper reporter sent me questions, I responded via e-mail, and that was it. The entire process probably took 15 minutes of my time. However, since the story appeared in the Sunday, April 10 edition of the newspaper, I have had several people inform me that they saw the article and are excited that I will be a part of the upcoming business event. This marketing opportunity was a complete surprise for me. My business-oriented mind told me to take advantage of the opportunity and capitalize upon it. Not only was I quoted in the article, but a picture was included, along with the title of my presentation, “Leveraging Your Leadership Abilities. What a great way to inform people about the event, let them know that I will be there as a seminar presenter, and gain additional publicity for Feather Communications. Take advantage of surprise marketing opportunities. When they present themselves, don’t waste time. Get your name out there and you will be surprised at the recognition, positive response from current clients, admiration of potential customers, and the overall encouraging reaction.
